Dear Collective,

I'd like to share with you the personal journey that inspired the creation of aafiya collective, which I consider a dedication to the global Black community. Born in Paris and raised across France, the US, and Greece, I am deeply rooted in a blend of cultures from Chad, Martinique, and France. This diverse background sparked my curiosity about our shared heritage and guided my path towards defining my own identity.

The Black experience is rich and varied but often oversimplified in mainstream discussions. My travels helped me uncover the profound connections many African descendants in Europe have with their ancestral lands—a stark contrast to the obscured histories of those in the Americas and the Caribbean, whose ties were severed by slavery. Similarly, colonialism has deeply marked the cultural identities of Africans on the continent.

Despite these differences, a yearning for wholeness, a deep longing for belonging, threads through us all. For me, this yearning intensified after a life-altering event. I knew healing wasn't just about physical recovery; it was about mending the soul. While therapy offered a foundation, a deeper void remained. Existing wellness spaces, often centered around practices rooted outside of Africa, couldn't fill it. This realization became a call to create the solution I knew myself and so many others needed.

Thus, aafiya collective was born.

Our mission goes beyond bridging a gap; it's about filling the voids left by history. We create spaces for collective healing, rooted in the rich traditions of our heritage and empowered by the shared experiences and unwavering support of our community. aafiya collective isn't just about retreats; it's about rewriting the narrative of Black wellness, together.

Join us, share your story, and embark on this transformative journey with us. Let's rediscover our roots and craft new narratives together, perhaps at one of our upcoming retreats.

Looking forward to welcoming you home,

-Audrey Boistol
